Who was the real Guy Fawkes?

Much coaching is about self-awareness – and those who are open to learning about themselves find it fascinating and find that coaching enables them to fly much higher. With tomorrow being 5th November, thinking about this led me to wonder about the man behind the mask, Guy Fawkes.

Born into a Protestant family, indeed the son of a church lawyer and prominent Protestant, Guy Fawkes’ mother’s family included secret Catholics (at a dangerous time to be Catholic, hence secret, I presume). Guy was eight when his father died and his mother remarried - a Catholic, Dionysius Bainbridge. Drawn to his stepfather’s religion, Guy converted…and the rest is history!

According to Thomas PPA, we have a self-mask, how we see ourselves, and a work mask, reflecting how we behave at work. When our work mast differs from our self-mask, we become stressed and don’t do our best work. Our integrity is compromised because we’re not being true to ourselves. I wonder if, dangerous as it was, the young Guy felt he had to be true to himself in order to operate with integrity and do his best work…even if it was to blow up Parliament!
