So what do you do?
When I’m out and about (usually cycling), chatting with people, I often get asked, “So what do you do as a coach?” A simple question but there’s no quick elevator pitch answer.
I could say, I help people to look to the future, giving them time and space to explore what they’re looking for and helping them to get there.
I could say, it’s all about the coachee so I help them to find their agenda then guide them through it.
I could say, I help my clients to work out the most effective actions to take, in order to accelerate their careers, businesses and relationships.
It’s all of the above, plus, I:
· Hold my clients accountable and keep them from feeling isolated (it’s lonely at the top)
· Help them to see the wood for the trees and offer a fresh perspective
· Act as an objective third party to check in with and make sure they’re still going in the right direction
· Help them to keep learning and growing, help them to spot what they don’t know (or what they forgot they already knew) and find ways to close knowledge and skills gaps
· Help them to identify and overcome imagined and real barriers, including (and especially) those self-imposed blockers
· Help them to identify new options and opportunities
· Give them constructive, unbiased criticism and offer insights
· Help them to navigate challenges and to achieve the goals they’re reaching for.
It’s a broad remit yet it’s incredibly focused and action-oriented. The best way to find out is to try it out.
Business and career development coaching is for anyone from the MD or business owner, the CMO or Marketing Director to the aspiring Marketing Executive. It helps people to establish great goals, whether for themselves or the business – or both. It enables people to reach those goals faster, to make better decisions and improve working relationships.
