May blossom

Is your career blossoming?

Many of the people I’m talking to at the moment are either searching for their next big marketing job, having been made redundant or a contract has come to an end, or they’re holding on to the one they have because times are still so uncertain, even though, ideally, they’d like something more challenging. Happily, some are flying high where they are and plan to stay for a while.

Those who are tactically staying put are using the time to make sure their skills are in tip top form and using coaching to get themselves fit to achieve a stride forwards in their careers. I’ve been working with one superb and highly accomplished Marketing Director, who has been knocked back a few times when applying and interviewing for CMO roles. Five sessions on and she is at final stage for a meaty CMO job in a company she really would like to work with. Fingers crossed for her!

It's a little bit harder for those who aren’t currently earning to justify investing in themselves, even though the point of doing so is to secure a better job sooner. I am working with a few people in this situation on a buy now pay later basis. As an ex-recruiter, I am able to give these clients CV advice, help with covering letters, interview prep and interview practice, as well as some coaching to overcome any barriers we identify.

I also have clients who are flying high and loving their jobs. For them, I act as a sounding board and sense check on whatever issues they’re facing in the workplace. The more senior you get, the less appropriate generic training courses are for you so coaching offers a tailored intervention to move you forward. These high flyers are investing in themselves and reaping the rewards.

Is your career blossoming or does it need help to blossom? Do any of these scenarios resonate with you? If you’d like to chat, do book in a half hour call with me and let’s explore working together.
