It’s never too late
Cycling near home earlier this week, I spotted this gorgeous post box topper – what a wonderful new addition to our towns and villages! Apparently, post box toppers have been around since 2012, as a development of Christmas traditions, which spread to other seasonal highlights…including Valentine’s Day.
Clearly, I’m a bit late to the party this Valentine’s but it’s better late than never. This got me thinking about career moves and changes, about changing your leadership style or bringing new thinking into your workplace. No matter how long you’ve been doing things one way or how long you’ve been in a particular job or even career, it’s never too late to make a change if something is nagging at you.
It’s often a little voice inside that is making you wonder, “what if…” Many of my clients come to me with a what if question or an itch they need to scratch. Coaching gives them the time and space to explore these ideas – the results vary from making an enormous change to deciding to stay put and do nothing. Either way it’s fine, the important thing is that they’ve given themselves permission to take time out and explore a subject.
I did it myself a few short years ago when the result of my ruminations was to study for the ILM 7 in Executive Coaching and Mentoring. For four years, I coached part time while still at Stopgap Executive and then for the past year and a bit, I’ve coached full time…the whole journey has been so rewarding. If I hadn’t taken time out to explore my options back then, I might still be itching without the satisfaction of the scratch!
